Allow me to try and take a crack at answering some common questions. I won't be able to cover them all but if you are a first time player you should be able to get a good idea of what we are about by reading this page.

Do I need a group to play at Sams?

No, not all. You can come out by yourself if you like. There is no need for a group though they are welcome. If you come alone you will be playing in our walk on game.

What is the walk on game?

The walk on game is for anyone who is not part of a private group. We are careful when dividing up the walk on group into teams. We don't just take all the experienced players with their own equipment and put them on a team against first timers with rental equipment! We make sure that each team has an equal mix of new and experienced players as well as what kind of equipment is being used.

We also will change the teams up as the day goes on. As players come and go or if one side seems to be out of balance we will move players to try to ensure that each game is as fair as we can make it.

What if I don't want to play with the walk ons?

If you wish to play separately from the walk ons then you are welcome to book a private game. To do this you must have a minimum of 15 players and have booked the game in advance. For more info on private games and rates click here, group rates.

Does it hurt to get hit by a paintball?

Yes and no, let me explain. Sure, getting hit with anything moving at that speed won't feel great but it really isn't that bad. Remember, you are going to have a lot of adrenalin pumping through your vains so it won't really be that bad. It aslo greatly depends on range and whether or not it hit bare skin. Getting shot from a foot away on bare skin is going to hurt a lot worse then getting hit from 30 yards out. I will not lie to you though, these things can pack a bit of sting.

Do I need my own marker?

No. We offer PMI Piranha's with 3000 psi compressed air tanks for you to rent. You are, of course, more than welcome to bring your own marker but we do offer them for rent as well.

What kind of marker can I use?

You can use any kind of marker you choose as long as they meet certain criteria. They must be a true semi auto. This means, one trigger pull and release results in a single paintball being fired. THERE ARE NO FULL AUTO MARKERS ALLOWED! Also, no markers with burst modes or response triggers. Again, one pull and release gets you one shot.

Can I use paint grenades or mines?

No! Sorry, paintball markers only. We do not allow any other kind of device at the field. This also includes cannons and mortars.

What should I wear?

I would recommend you wear old clothes that you don't mind getting messed up. The paint will wash out. This is an outdoor sport so expect to get dirty. Camouflage is great if you have it but jeans and a sweatshirt work just fine. We also have camouflage available for rent. You should also wear dark colors, no reds, yellows, or whites. Our refs all wear orange or other bright colors so we need the players dressed in darks. This also helps you hide better.

I would strongly recommend you wear high top shoes or boots, something to give you ankle support. The terrain is rough out there and anything that adds support to your ankles is going to be preferred.

Does the paint stain?

The paint is water soluble so it should wash out of your clothes.

What is the field speed limit?

By speed limit we refer to the limit your gun must be chronographed in at or below. All markers must be chronographed at 285 feet per second or less.

Can I bring my own paint?

Yes! If you are playing in the walk on game then carry on paint is welcome. If you are playing in a private game then paint must be purchased from Paint Ball Sams at the field. We do reserve the right to deny the use of any paint and no one other then Paint Ball Sams is allowed to sell paint on the property. Any one caught selling paint will be removed from the property.

What kind of air tanks can you fill at Sams?

We can fill co2 or compressed air tanks. Our compressed air fill station will fill up to 4500 psi air tanks. All air tanks must be within their expiration dates to be filled. If you have a tank that is expired please take it to your local scuba diving shop for hydro testing. We can not fill any tank with bad scratches or holes. All tanks must be available for inspection, this means no stickers or tape on the tanks you wish to have filled.

Do you rent compressed air tanks?

Yes we do. We have steel 3000 psi compressed air tanks available for rent.

Do you play in the rain?

Sure we do. There are very few things we will call a game for. If lightning develops we will call the games or if it is raining so hard as to make it unplayable we will call a game but for the most part we will play through anything. It rarely happens that we cancel due to bad weather.

How long do the games last?

The games work like this, we play for 20 minutes or until one team wins, whichever comes first.

Do you sell equipment?

We do not sell equipment at the field, I would recomend AreoStar of Wisconsin.

How old do you have to be?

You must be at least 14 years old to play in walk on games. 12 and 13 year olds may play in private games if accompanied by parent or LEGAL guardian. If you are under the age of 18 YOU MUST have one of OUR consent forms signed and notarized or have a parent or legal guardian with you at the field to sign a consent form in front of us. The legal guardian must be just that, this is not siblings, uncles, neighbors, etc. This MUST be a parent or LEGAL guardian.

Do you break for lunch?

No. We keep playing until 4:30 but you are welcome to take a break whenever you like. We will keep the games going and you can join back in when you're done eating.

Do you have food available?

We have a limited selection of food available. We offer soda, gatorade, and bottled water for sale. We also offer a variety of snack items. We do not offer any hot food or sandwiches except during the Big Games in spring and fall. There are, however, a few fast food places nearby. One note, if you leave to go get something to eat, your rental equipment MUST stay at the field.
